Non-slip, if in use. October 2, 2007 Dennis Chang (Seal Beach, CA United States) I like this pad's tracking and texture, and there is a HUGE improvement between this pad and others in terms of mouse movement and sensitivity.
However, it *does* slip around on my desk (natural wood, no lacquer) a bit. I've figured it out--the pad is so thin and light that on its own, the pad's weight isn't enough to press its sticky undercoating into the tabletop. The pad is essentially floating on top of the desk's surface, with only a few points making contact.
However, when I am actually using the mouse, it sticks exceptionally well. The weight of my hand on the mouse is enough to make the undercoating grip the desk's surface tightly. I can try hard to push the pad around the desk with just the mouse, and I can't do it no matter how hard I try. The only way to move the pad while the mouse is being used is if I catch the edge of the pad, and even then, it takes considerable effort to move the pad.
So, this is what I think is happening with the others that are having trouble with the slipping--either they're dealing with oil or dust that is preventing the sticky undercoating from gripping, or they are pushing the pad around when their wrist catches the edge while they are lifting the mouse. Since I have a smaller notebook mouse that doesn't require lifting and re-positioning, my pad doesn't move about even through hours of use.
I wish they made a clear rectangle, though--this round one isn't the best shape for my desk.
Worked Great For A While October 19, 2007 Wing Fat I really like this mousepad, primarily because it's the perfect size and because it's so thin. The mouse glides incredibly easily over the top; it feels like the top is coated with Teflon. However, after a few months the bottom side lost its tackiness and started sliding when I moved the mouse. When it comes to interacting with computers there are few things more annoying than a mousepad that won't stay put. I tried cleaning it but it didn't help.
I just bought different model of the WowPad, the "battery saver" version. This one sticks MUCH better than my old "clear" version; I'm not sure if it's that way because it's new or because they've improved the product (I guess I'll find out six months from now).
I do recommend the WowPad. I like it so much that if I need to replace it every six months I will.
Mixed review, like the tracking, do not like the slipping. April 4, 2007 Two kids mom (Tijeras, NM United States) I really like the fact that this mousepad is super thin and the optical mouse tracks very well on it. However, I do not like that it slips around on my desk. If I clean it off (and the desk top as well) and leave it a little damp then it will stick for about a week. Then it starts sliding around the desk when I use the mouse. The desk has a melamine top so it is very smooth. I do not know if that is part of the problem, perhaps it would be better on a rougher surface like wood.
Good utilitarian pad, slips quite a bit. May 29, 2007 M. Birtwhistle (Williamsburg, VA USA) The mouse pad is a perfect size, about the size of a small dinner plate or maybe a smidgen smaller than a soccer ball/volleyball. There is more than enough space to move the mouse around without moving off the pad.
I did hope that the plastic would have been a little more transparent because it is still pretty visible on my desk (looks like red oak). The plastic is about as clear as the cover plastic of frosted plastic presentation folders. It wouldn't surprise me if that is what is used to make this product.
The drawback, as mentioned before, is that there is almost no slip resistance to this mouse pad. I am not sure what the manufacturer is talking about, but at least on wood, the pad can move around while you do your mousely duties.
If I had known what I know now, I would have simply bought some plastic presentation folder and cut out a mouse pad. I am thinking about getting some of that tack spray that is used in crafts to make the pad stay put a little more. All in all, I guess it's worth the price, as long as you can get it with free shipping.
